Join award-winning author Michael B. Oren, the new Israeli ambassador to the U.S. and distinguished journalist and author Yossi Klein Halevi for a conversation about the world's obsession with Israel and the politics of the Middle East. Oren is a distinguished felllow at the Shalem Center in Jerusalem. He is the author of the award-winning Six Days of War: June 1967 and the Making of the Modern Middle East and the critically acclaimed Power, Faith and Fantasy: America in the Middle East 1776 to the Present. Halevi is a contributing editor and the Israel correspondent of The New Republic. He is the author of At the Entrance to the Garden of Eden: A Jew's Search for God with Christians and Muslims in the Holy Land.

The Coming Commercial Revolution in the Muslim World with Vali Nasr
Vali Nasr, a senior fellow for Middle Eastern studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, argues that the great battle for the soul of the Middle East will be fought not over religion, but over business and capitalism. Learn why extremism has become such a problem and how it can defeated, how regional stablity can evolve and how Middle East-U.S. relations can be dramatically improved. Vali Nasr is a professor of international politics at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has been tapped to be a senior advisor to Richard Holbrooke, the Obama administration's Special Representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan. He is the author of Forces of Fortune: The Rise of the New Muslim Middle Class and What It Will Mean for Our World.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated by President Clinton as associate justice of the United States Supreme Court in June 1993, and took the oath of office in August 1993. Prior to her appointment, she served on the bench of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She was a professor of law at Columbia University and earlier served on the law faculty at Rutgers. She has also taught at many other law schools in the U.S. and abroad. Ginsburg holds a BA from Cornell University, and received her JD from Columbia Law School. In 1971, she was instrumental in launching the Women's Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. Throughout the '70s, she litigated a series of cases solidifying a constitutional principle against gender-based discrimination. Ginsburg has written widely in the areas of civil procedure, conflict of laws, constitutional law, and comparative law.

Jon Meacham is the editor of Newsweek and the author of Franklin and Winston and American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography. Fareed Zakaria is the editor of Newsweek International. His stories and columns on subjects from globalization and emerging markets to the Middle East and America’s role in the world reach more than 25 million readers weekly. He is also the host of the weekly international news program, Fareed Zakaria GPS, which airs on CNN. His most recent book is the national bestseller, The Post-American World.

Now in its 11th year, the Captains of Industry series, hosted by BusinessWeek consists of interviews with leaders in the world of business. This year, in particular, focuses on how to navigate uncertainty and restore the strength of American business. Jeffrey R. Immelt, the CEO of General Electric since 2001, has been named one of the "World's Best CEO's" by Barron's three times. This lecture will be held at Steven and Susan Holzman's.
